First cargo of discounted Russian crude oil arrives in Karachi: PM Shehbaz

On June 11, 2023, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the first Russian oil cargo had arrived in Pakistan. The cargo, which is a shipment of 100,000 tons of Urals crude oil, arrived at the Port of Karachi on June 13.

The arrival of the Russian oil is a major shift in Pakistan's energy policy. Pakistan has traditionally relied on imports of oil from the Middle East. However, the war in Ukraine has led to a sharp increase in the price of oil from the Middle East. This has made it difficult for Pakistan to afford to import enough oil to meet its energy needs.

The arrival of the Russian oil is expected to help Pakistan to alleviate its energy crisis. The Russian oil is cheaper than the oil that Pakistan has been importing from the Middle East. This will help Pakistan to save money and will also help to reduce inflation.

PM Shehbaz Sharif has said that the arrival of the Russian oil is a "historic moment" for Pakistan. He has also said that the government will continue to explore all options to secure affordable energy for the country.

The arrival of the Russian oil has been met with mixed reactions in Pakistan. Some people have welcomed the move, saying that it will help to reduce the country's reliance on oil from the Middle East. Others have criticized the move, saying that it is a sign of Pakistan's growing ties with Russia.

The arrival of the Russian oil is a significant development for Pakistan. It remains to be seen how the move will impact the country's energy security and its relations with the West.
